Brumbies Christmas visit to Canberra Hospital

The Brumbies have spent their Wednesday afternoons delivering a bit of cheer to some of Canberra’s toughest residents when they visited Canberra Hospital’s Paediatric and Oncology wards.

16 of the current squad made the trip to Woden with Team Director Ray Dearlove loaded with gifts for children.

The only father in the group, Ben Hand, said he was pleased to be able to share a bit of Christmas cheer with people who needed it the most.

“I’ve got a young family of my own so it’s a bit of a reality check to come here and see how tough these kids are doing it,” Hand said.

“From my understanding the majority of these kids will be spending their entire Christmas break in hospital which isn’t ideal, we were all pretty happy to have a chance to come down and say hi and hand out a few pressies.”

“We’ve only been here a few minutes and it’s clear to see what a great job the staff here do. They are all really attentive and let’s face it, it’s not going to be the easiest job looking after sick kids.”

“I’m really pleased with the boys for getting out here today, this was all up to them to be a part of, to bring in their own gift and it’s nice to see so many of them want to be involved.”

About 50 gifts made the trip with the boys and were hand-delivered by stars like Christian Lealiifano, Dan Palmer and Hand.
