CA Technologies Brumbies players Matt Toomua and Christian Lealiifano delivered more than 300 hats to Queanbeyan West Primary on Thursday afternoon on the campaign trail for Walla Rugby in the ACT region’s schools.
Queanbeyan West recently celebrated a semi-final appearance at the Matt Giteau Cup with just over 300 students declaring themselves CA Technologies Brumbies supporters along the way.
The children came dressed in their favourite footy gear for the day, with a collection of teams from all the codes around Australia.
But it was the Brumby boys who stole the show, encouraging young players to sign up and have a go at the 15-man game.
“That’s how every kid gets involved with the game, through days like today at Queanbeyan West so Matty and I were pretty happy to get involved,” Lealiifano said.
“I grew up in Melbourne where there was a lot of competition from other codes especially AFL, there is plenty of choice for these kids now as far as what sport they want to play so it’s up to us to help them see rugby is the best decision.”
Walla Rugby has captured school kids right across Australia, with more than 43,000 students from 275 schools taking part in the official Walla Rugby week, ending Friday, 16 September.
