Brumbies Rugby Development will host eight teams in Thursday’s annual ACT&SNSW Brumbies Rugby Shield Finals Tournament at the O’Conner Ovals.
High schools from the ACT and Southern NSW Brumbies catchment will contest the finals after each area had conducted regional 15 a-side tournaments over the past three months.
Regional schools finalists Bega High, St Mary MacKillop, Melba High, St Francis Leeton, and Hennessy Collage Young are all participating in the Brumbies Rugby Shield’s Year 7/8 divisions.
The Year 11/12 finals include Erindale Collage, Lake Ginninderra Collage and Bega High in a three-way final to conduct the Stephen Larkham Shield.
Brumbies Rugby Development Coordinator, Russell Ingram said he was looking forward to seeing some of the best schools rugby regional NSW had to offer.
“The response and rugby skills shown from the schools in all the regional tournaments has been excellent,” Ingram said.
“The Brumbies finals with all the regional winners competing against one another should make the tournament a great day of rugby.”
The one-day carnivals provide schools the opportunity to introduce students to rugby union in a safe and fun manner, without the commitment of a full season.
“We’re hoping these carnivals will, in the long term, lead to an increase in the number of kids taking up regular Rugby in the Brumbies Region.”
