The CA Technologies Brumbies will again feature heavily for the Wallabies with seven members of the 2011 team being named in the initial 40 man squad.
While there were no new faces from the team selected, Ben Alexander, Rocky Elsom, Salesi Ma’afu, Stephen Moore, Adam Ashley-Cooper, Matt Giteau and Pat McCabe have all been picked and travelled to Sydney over the weekend.
While several squad members from the 2011 CA Technologies Brumbies will be moving on at the start of the 2012 season, McCabe, Moore and Alexander will all still be playing their rugby in Canberra.
Alexander said he was thrilled with his selection and would be working hard to ensure he was still in contention for a prop spot when the squad was culled to 30 before the World Cup.
“I was very pleased to get the call to come into the preliminary 40-man squad over the weekend,” Alexander said.
“It’s always an exciting time of the year when the international season starts. There are a few new faces but we’ve been able to keep a fairly consistent team to the one that performed so well at the tail end of last year.
“There is a lot to look forward to this international season and it all starts on Sunday with the match against Samoa.”
The Wallabies play their first match this Sunday, 17 July against Samoa at ANZ Stadium, kick off 2pm.
