Coming in from his second-last training run with the CA Technologies Brumbies in the freezing cold at Viking Park, Adam Ashley-Cooper was keen to remind his fans that he will be anything but a Waratah this weekend at ANZ Stadium.
After eight years in the ACT region, Ashley-Cooper indicated earlier in the year that he would be moving back to Sydney and to Waratahs to be closer to his family and partner Pip for the end of this season.
But that won't happen for at least another week, with the Wallaby 13 hoping to turn in one of his best performances of the year and keep the Tahs out of the 2011 Super Rugby Finals Series.
“Knowing that it’s my last game with the Brumbs is certainly important to me, and it’s also a special game knowing that there are a few guys leaving next year and this will be our last opportunity to play together,” Ashley-Cooper said.
“I’ve just been focused on my roll down here and like I’ve alluded to the boys here all week, I’m not a Waratah yet so I’ll be going out there to perform as well as I can for the Brumbies.”
Ashley Cooper has played 78 games for the CA Technologies Brumbies scoring 14 tries along the way. After working hard on his early season form, the dynamic ball runner has returned to the top of his game to be one of the team's best carriers and most trustworthy defenders.
He said a win on Saturday would continue what had been building at Brumbies Rugby over the last few weeks and he was pleased with the consistency coming through.
“It’s good that everyone is consistently performing. The fact that we are playing local teams who have beaten us earlier in the year is enough to get excited about – we just wanted to create something special for ourselves,” he said.
“There’s no doubting that Wallabies selections are in the back of players minds – it’s a big year with the World Cup this year… but what’s important is to focus on the now and what’s ahead of us is a game against the Waratahs. If you focus solely on that then the rest will take care of itself.”
The CA Technologies Brumbies will face the Waratahs this Saturday night at ANZ Stadium, kick-off 7.40pm.
