Brumbies Rugby counts injury toll

By Brumbies Media Unit

Adding salt to the wounds of Saturday’s loss to the Lions, the CA Technologies Brumbies are now contending with several serious injuries resulting from the clash at Canberra Stadium.

Huia Edmonds suffered a Lis Franc injury to his ankle, leaving him on the sidelines for six months. It is a massive blow to the hooker, who had been in the Wallabies fold for the previous 12 months and was hopeful of making Robbie Deans World Cup squad.

Edmonds has travelled to Sydney where he will undergo surgery on Monday afternoon.

Tighthead prop Salesi Ma’afu’s season is also over after fracturing his radius during the game on Saturday night.

Ma’afu’s injury is expected to take between eight and 12 weeks to repair, meaning his 2011 season has now finished.

Like Edmonds, Ma’afu will have surgery on Monday afternoon.

Also finding himself on the injured list this week is boom rookie Ita Vaea, who has suffered an ankle injury. The extent of Vaea’s injury will not be known until late on Monday afternoon following scans.

The CA Technologies Brumbies will leave Canberra on Thursday afternoon for Perth to play the Western Force on Saturday night.
