The autumn chill has arrived in Canberra, with the CA Technologies Brumbies braving the frosty conditions to complete their Captain’s Run at Canberra Stadium on Friday afternoon.
Moving the session to late afternoon was on the cards all week, with coaching staff looking to have the team ready for their evening match on Saturday.
Although it had been hoped prop Dan Palmer would pull through from a foot injury, the tighthead will not play on Saturday night leaving Salesi Ma’afu and Jono Owen to take care of his position.
Winger Henry Speight trained strongly with the team on Thursday afternoon, having missed the last three matches with an ankle injury. He will play off the bench against the Lions on Saturday night.
Head Coach Tony Rea felt his team was on the cusp of a win and needed to keep tight and play hard for the full 80 minutes.
“We’ve spoken about discipline and we’ve spoken about consistency – both those elements of our game will need to be improved if we are to get a result over the Lions on Saturday,” Rea said.
“We are going out there looking for an improvement. That’s the outcome we’ve been working towards this week.”
The CA Technologies Brumbies have never been beaten by the Lions in Canberra, and only fallen to the Johannesburg based team four times since the competition began.
However a season of regular losses has meant the team will need to be at their very best to beat Lions.
