The CA Technologies Brumbies will field the same run-on XV against the Rebels after pulling through the victory over the Chiefs last Saturday uninjured.
Concerns over halfback Josh Valentine’s scratched cornea and a hip twist to prop Dan Palmer have been put to bed, with both players receiving the all clear from CA Technologies Brumbies medical staff on Sunday and Monday respectively.
Head Coach Andy Friend now has the benefit of consistency on his side, having named the same undefeated starting side three weeks running.
“It’s been great to be able to carry the same team through from our trial match against the Hurricanes into Week Two of the season,” Friend said.
“Once again we have the liberty of fielding a very strong team against the Rebels this Friday.
“We saw against the Chiefs that combinations between players are starting to develop both in the forwards and backs and to be able to expand that further without distractions is a real positive.”
While the run on team has been kept in tact, Stephen Hoiles, who has been getting game time from the bench, has been ruled out due to continued problems with his Achilles. His bench spot will go to Peter Kimlin, who makes his first appearance for the CA Technologies Brumbies since 2009 having had a horror run with injuries himself.
Man of the Match against the Chiefs, Matt Giteau, will again Captain the side in Melbourne. Giteau turned in a solid performance against the Chiefs making early breaks and providing much of the lead up work for Robbie Coleman’s try.
“We will be looking to develop the positive parts of last Saturday night’s game and to maintain our momentum for the full 80 minutes,” Giteau said.
“Our start against the Chiefs was pleasing but there are some concerns about the way we dropped off after half time that will need to be addressed.
“Everyone is looking forward to their first ever game against the Rebels and we expect them to play some quality rugby. Having the same run on team against the Hurricanes, Chiefs and now the Rebels will be a big help for our consistency.”
The CA Technologies Brumbies play the Rebels this Friday at AAMI Park, Melbourne. Kick-off is at 7.40pm.
