CA Brumbies back on deck for 2007

The complete 2007 CA Brumbies squad has resumed training prior to their first Super 14 fixture against the Chiefs in Hamilton on February 3.
Fifteen CA Brumbies rejoined the squad today after having taken part in the Wallabies’ Rugby World Cup training squad camp at the Australian Institute of Sport last week.
CA Brumbies captain Stirling Mortlock says he is pleased to be back training with the CA Brumbies.
“It’s only 25 days before our first Super 14 match and it’s exciting to be back for what is the official start to our 2007 season today,” he said. “I think that everyone has been buoyed by the tremendous depth we’ve got in the squad and we’re confident of a successful season. While we still recognise that there is a lot of work to be done between now and February 3, we’re all looking forward to getting back out and playing for the Brumbies.”
The CA Brumbies play the Chiefs in Hamilton in Week One before returning to Canberra Stadium for their first home match of the season against the Blues on February 10.
CA Brumbies coach Laurie Fisher says the next three weeks will be critical to his side’s success during the Super 14.
“This next training block will be season-defining,” he said. “The quality and amount of work that we can get through in these next few weeks will largely determine how we go for the rest of the season.”
“This pre-season preparation, up until this stage, is always difficult when you only have half the group and a large number of them are rehabilitating injuries. But this period has been about establishing good training habits and introducing these new guys to a professional environment. If we can educate them well, it provides a good platform for the next month which will be our crucial month.”
The CA Brumbies kick off their pre-season campaign with matches against the Waratahs (WIN Stadium, 20 January) and the Hurricanes (Canberra Stadium, 26 January).
