Stephen Hoiles has signed a two year deal with the CA Brumbies.
Despite interest from the Waratahs and the Reds, the former N.S.W and Wallaby loose forward says the opportunity to improve his game is the reason for his move to Canberra.
“You just see it time and time again. Players go to the Brumbies and they improve. I want that opportunity particularly in a World Cup year. If I can play regular time with a settled backline that includes quality players Stephen Larkham, George Gregan and Mark Gerrard that will be my best chance of making it to France.”
Hoiles added that playing “Brumbies’ Rugby” was appealing.
“I just love the way the Brumbies’ play. They obviously have a clear direction that everyone believes in and follows. It’s an entertaining, attacking style that will suit my game”.
CA Brumbies chief executive Andrew Fagan says Hoiles’ decision to join the Brumbies is another vote of confidence in the Brumbies’ rugby program.
“It’s pleasing that our reputation for developing players is what draws quality players to the Brumbies. Stephen is an intelligent, skillful and hard working player with a clear idea of what he wants to achieve. We’re delighted that he’s agreed to join us in Canberra and we’re confident that he’ll make a big contribution over the next two seasons”.
CA Brumbies’ coach Laurie Fisher says the acquisition of Hoiles will add knowledge and skill to the Brumbies.
“We see Stephen fitting in at number 8 although he does have versatility to play any position in the backrow. There’s no question that he will suit to our attacking style of game. He runs good lines, is evasive in attack and has tremendous vision around the field. He’s also a quality lineout forward. He’s clear about what he wants to achieve in his rugby and it’s our job to work with him to make sure it happens”.
