Christian Lealiifano will remain with the UC Brumbies until the end of 2016 after signing a two-year contract extension on Sunday morning.
The UC Brumbies and Wallabies inside centre has turned down offers from domestic and international rivals to stay with the club he debuted for back in 2008.
Lealiifano is regarded as one of Australia’s best inside backs, debuting for the Wallabies in 2013 against the British and Irish Lions in Brisbane before going on to feature in the Rugby Championship and spring tour.
Lealiifano said he was pleased to have his future sorted so he could focus on the South African tour with the UC Brumbies.
“The Brumbies have shown a lot of faith in me over the last five years and I’m pleased we have been able to sort everything out so I can stay,” Lealiifano said.
“By 2016 I will have been in Canberra for 10 years, so this is very much home for me. Working with Stephen Larkham and Laurie I feel like my game has improved, so to have two more years to work with those guys is also exciting.
“I’m really happy to have this sorted before we head to Africa. The next three games are crucial to our season and my full focus is now on playing good rugby for the Brumbies.”
Lealiifano is the complete package for the UC Brumbies, filling one of the club’s leadership positions, is the team’s goal kicker, playmaker and regularly leads the way in defence.
He is a player who commands a great deal of respect not only from within the UC Brumbies squad, but throughout the entire Australian rugby landscape.
The UC Brumbies will leave for Africa on Sunday on a two game tour where they will face the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein and the Bulls in Pretoria.
