One of 13 development players invited to train with the University of Canberra Brumbies during the pre-season, Pat Sio is working towards a professional career in rugby having seen his older brother Scott rise to the top in just two seasons.
Like Scott, Pat is a big, physical forward who has made his way through the Australian aged grade sides, starring alongside Scott Staniforth for the Under 20’s in 2013.
Now with the UC Brumbies on a fulltime basis until Christmas, Pat Sio will be looking to soak up as much rugby knowledge as possible.
“It’s a great opportunity for me to come down to Canberra and be part of a professional set-up,” Sio said.
“I got a taste of what professional standards and training were like earlier this year with the Under 20’s, but being here in the Brumbies program has been a big step for me and I’m just trying to take it all in.
“It’s nice to have Scott here. He’s had a pretty successful period over the last years and has always been a good sounding board for me in regards to my rugby.”
Sio will train with the UC Brumbies until Christmas and is expected to sign with a John I Dent Cup team for the 2014 season.
Sydney born and bred, Sio spent the last 12 months on the North Shore playing with Northern Suburbs in the Shute Shield. The two brothers have a strong bloodline of rugby in their family with dad Tavita representing Samoa at the 1991 Rugby World Cup.
