Richard Hogg from Broulee/Moruya Dolphins has been awarded the ACT & SNSWRU Volunteer of the Year Award at the 2011 Macdougall Medal and Presentation Night.
Richard has been involved with the Broulee/Moruya Dolphins Rugby Club for the past 5 years and was instrumental in the re-emergence of the Broulee/Moruya Junior Dolphins with the entry of 2 teams into the ACT Junior Rugby Competition in 2007.
This year the Dolphins club has 115 registered junior players and fielded 5 junior teams in the ACT Junior Competition, 3 of which are in the Division 1 Competition.
Richard arranged regular coach and player development days and he has ensured that all coaches have the required qualification as well as working with the local council to improve the home ground facilities at Broulee.
At Club home games Richard is not only the Ground Marshal he also does the ground set-up and take-down for each home game.
As sponsorship coordinator for the Broulee/Moruya Club, Richard has been able to secure significant sponsorship for the Club and his work in servicing these sponsors has seen their contribution grow over the last 5 years.
Through this sponsorship the Club has been able to provide a Player Development Fund, and in 2011, with Richard’s support and organisation, the Club was able to put 12 of their junior players through the Refereeing Kids Rugby Course.
While Richard’s personal drive, enthusiasm and business acumen has contributed significantly to the development and growth of junior Rugby on the South Coast, it has been his focus on the cultural values of good sportsmanship, respect for all participants in the game and teamwork that have had the most impact on the players and parents involved with the Broulee/Moruya Club.
Richard attended the John Eales Medal Dinner on September 1 as a nominee for the ARU’s Volunteer of the Year.
Congratulations Richard.
